TOEIC Information

1. What is the TOEIC Test?

TOEIC stands for Test of English for International Communication. It is an English language test administered by ETS that measures your ability to use everyday English in an international workplace environment. There are three TOEIC tests: TOEIC Listening and Reading Test, TOEIC Speaking Test, and TOEIC Writing Test. Only the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test is currently represented in iTests.

2. What are the benefits of taking the TOEIC test?

The TOEIC test is offered in over 120 countries and more than 10,000 institutions around the world. If you want to be successful in the global workplace, then the TOEIC test can help you. Employers use scores from the TOEIC test to assess the English proficiency of potential employees, to promote qualified employees, and to identify job-training requirements.

3. What is the format of the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test?

The TOEIC Listening and Reading Test is a paper-based test with two separately timed sections. ETS also offers the TOEIC Speaking and TOEIC Writing tests. There are two sections to the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test.

Listening

In this section, you will be required to listen to and answer questions about statements, conversations, and a variety of talks. There are four parts to the Listening section: Photographs, Question-Response, Conversations, and Short Talks. There are 45 minutes provided to answer 100 multiple-choice questions in this section.

Reading

This section includes reading passages in a variety of forms and on a variety of topics. All the information you need to answer the questions is contained within the reading passage. There are three parts to the Reading section: Incomplete Sentences, Error Recognition or Text Completion, and Reading Comprehension. This section will take approximately 75 minutes to complete and contains 100 multiple-choice questions.

The TOEIC test includes questions drawn from many contexts, including: corporate development, dining in restaurants, entertainment, finance, business, health, property, personnel, purchasing, travel, and technical areas.

4. How do I prepare for the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test?

In addition to following a TOEIC course with an English language teacher, it is also useful to take some TOEIC practice tests, so that you will know what to expect on the real test. If you practice the different parts of the test individually and check your scores, you can then see the sections and skills that you need to practice most. Overall scores on practice tests can also help to give you an idea of how you might perform in the real test. Interactive practice tests on iTests follow the same format, questions, and timing as the real TOEIC test, so that you get a realistic test experience. iTests practice tests are divided into small parts so you can choose which parts you need to practice. Your personal score chart shows your performance so you can check your progress.
